The Organization of the Protection of Human Rights and Social Guarantees in Lithuania (OPHRSGL) is a nonprofit public organization whose main goal is to inform the citizens of Lithuania about human rights and their protection and to watch whether the fundamental principles of human rights are observed in various public and private institutions as well as to take certain measures if these rights are violated.
OPHRSGL was established during the constituent assembly which took place in Kaunas on the 14th of June, 2000. The organization was registered in the Minstry of Justice of the Rebublic of Lithuania on the 3rd June, 2000.

We actively set to work at once : we have been investigating the complaints and requests of citizens; we have appealed to competent institutions concerning the elimination of violations of human rights; we have offered various improvements of standard acts to the Ministry of Justice of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania as well as to the Committee on Legal Affairs.

We represent three cases in the Council of Europe in Strasbourg. There has already been passed a favourable judgement for the declerant in one case and two other cases are still investigated.

We have developed contacts with international organizations of human rights in other countries.

At present, OPHRSGL consists of 27 ordinary members and 6 members of honour.
