On the 1st of June, 2003 OPHRSGL organized the feast Let's Be Together meant for children.

Childhood is the most beautiful period of human life. Therefore, it is especially important to guarantee children's rights to pithy leisure, artistic activities, participation in cultural events and equal opportunities to enojy preoccupations that correspond to their age and needs. It should be noted that children are the weakest members of society. They are not able to protect their rights and they are not always allowed to have childhood full of value and enjoyment given this difficult economic period for Lithuania. Wishing to encourage the participation of children of Kaunas in cultural and creative activities, to develop their co-operative skills as well aa their ability to work as a team and to stimulate parents to give more attention to their children, OPHRSGL organized a feast for children on the 1st of June, the International Day of Children's Protection.

The feast started at 10 a. m. in the Square of Solidarity. Children were greeted by the students of KTU who wore the costumes of the personages known from the fairy - tales. Sweets and balloons were given out to children. Each child that came to the feast was given a present.

A number of competitions and games followed. The first of them was the artistic competition of the most beautiful drawing. Children, with the help of pupils from Saule secondary school, produced numerous chalk-drawings on the pavement of the square. In an hour, the entire Square of Solidarity was decorated with drawings and the appointed commission declared and awarded the winners. A huge cake presented by J. Gulbiniene's enterprise, was given to the winner of the competition.

Relay-races started at 12 a. m. The participants of the feast were divided up into teams and had to perform various tasks: " The Game with a Notice", " Be Attentive", "Five Rings" etc. The winners of each competition were presented with toys: cars, dolls, balls, constructors and computer games. The ones who suffered a defeat were not forgotten.They received the prizes of consolation: colouring books and invitations to have a pica in a restaurant called Metropolis. A special type of competition was aaranged for children and their parents. Parents participated in a relay-race carrying their children in a pot. The competitions were concluded with a cycle race. The winners, boys and girls separately, were presented with bikes.

At the end of the feast, a car, carrying ice-cream, arrived and all the children were given a treat. 1000 portions of ice-cream were distributed to all the participants. Children and parents were satisfied.

The feast was extended after a short break at the foot of the castle of Kaunas. A concert began at 16 a.m. Children pop choirs O lia lia, Linksmasis Do and M+M dancers Nerijus Jasaitis and Dovilė Janonytė, folklore companies Kaukutis and Bitula took part in the performance.

A united choir, accompanied by brass band "Ąžuolynas", appeared on the scene at 17:45 p.m.This choir performed the compositions meant for the TV bridge of Songs and dedicated to the occasion of the International Day of Children's Protection. The National TV Channel transmitted the performances of the groups of children from Klaipeda, Šiauliai, Kaunas and Vilnius live. The concert ended with a song called" The children in the Entire World". This song was performed by children's pop choir Abėcėlė.

We are happy that our efforts were not unavailing and the town of Kaunas was decorated with children’s smiles and songs on the International Day of Children’s Protection. Henceforth, we are planning to organize such a feast every year.
